SAVANNAH, Ga. – Alisha DiMarzio smashed two homeruns against Chowan in the second game of a split doubleheader, and Katie Kmiencinski hit her first collegiate home run in the opener against Pikesville as West Chester picked up two wins on Thursday morning, 11-3 and 10-2, with both contests called after six innings due to the mercy rule.
DiMarzio’s second dinger of the game opened up a five-run fourth for the Golden Rams (7-6), who went on to score two more runs in the bottom half of the sixth to stop the game. Stefani Kerbacher went 3-for-4 with three runs scored and Kmiencinski finished off a particularly good day with a 2-for-3 showing at the plate with two RBI.
Megan Graham (1-3) picked up her first win of the season in relief of starter Ashley Saussaman. Graham scattered two hits over four innings and allowed one run and struck out one while walking one. Saussaman lasted two innings, allowing three hits and one earned run while walking two and striking out three.
In the opener against Pikesville, Shannon Padula went the distance and allowed six hits in six innings without allowing an earned run. She struck out five batters. At the plate, the pitcher knocked in three runs.
West Chester scored five times in the bottom of the sixth to put an end to the contest.
Kmiencinski lead off the sixth with her first homerun of the season. She finished 3-for-4 with two runs scored and an RBI. Jamie McComb was 3-for-3 with three runs scored as well.
West Chester concludes its stay at the SCAD Smash Hit Spring Break Tournament with another contest versus Chowan again Friday afternoon before heading back north.
